Honouring Les Clark for Outstanding Service to Youth Aviation

The Scouts today announced the recognition of Les Clark, Chair of the Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre (VOWHGC) and long‑standing member of the British Gliding Association (BGA), for his exceptional contribution to youth aviation over more than two decades.
Les first became involved with Scout aviation activities over twenty years ago during an event at Thruxton, Hampshire, where his expertise and enthusiasm transformed the experience for a small group of young participants. Since then, he has continued to support aviation programmes across the region, offering guidance, instruction, and inspiration to thousands of young people.
His dedication was formally acknowledged at a major Scouting event near Cirencester, attended by over 1,000 Scouts, where he was presented with a Scouting Commendation for his sustained commitment to developing aviation skills and confidence in young people.
Les’s influence spans generations, with many young aviators crediting his encouragement as a defining factor in their journey into flight.
Citation: “For many years continuously supporting young people of all ages in their interest in aspects of aviation and skills for life.”
