About The Club
The gliding centre is based at Sandhill Farm in the beautiful Vale of White Horse in Oxfordshire. The club is a member of the British Gliding Association (BGA) and operates under its rules and guidance.
We are also a Community Amateur Sports Club (CSAC), and in line with CASC rules we aim to enable participation in the sport of Gliding to everyone without discrimination or adversely high costs. Using CASC regulations for reference and considering each case on its merits, the Club Committee will give consideration to applications from club members who find the club’s standard membership charges to be challenging.
We actively encourage diversity in the club membership, and everyone is welcome to become a club member, provide they are willing to abide by the club rules
Running a gliding club needs many varied skills and your skills might complement the existing skill base – as well as learning to fly a glider you might also learn other new skills. Our membership and flying fees are reasonable and our instructors are volunteers so we do not charge for instruction.
The British Gliding Association have produced a short video explaining how gliding clubs in the UK operate on a voluntary basis, and the sort of day-to-day operations you might expect to be involved in. At Vale of White Horse Gliding Club we operate using aerotow, rather than winching, which has many advantages when you’re learning to fly, as well as when you’re an experienced soaring pilot.
Club Aircraft
The club has a fleet of aircraft for training and for use by club members, including dual and single-seaters.
As they gain experience, members often buy a private glider individually or in a syndicate with 2 or 3 others, and these are also kept at the gliding centre.

We have a well-equipped clubhouse with a large lounge area, a flight briefing room, and an office. We also have a kitchen area for making hot drinks or for simple food preparation, male and female toilets, and an outdoor seating area with picnic tables.
