Sometimes the best days at the gliding club aren’t the days we all expect.
Summer days with good soaring conditions are fantastic, of course. That’s when we do big cross-country flights, or long local soaring flights, while enjoying the sunshine at the airfield when on the ground.
But sometimes a winter day compensates very nicely, with
the chance to stay current, spectacular views, and the fun of turning around flights quickly so everyone gets to fly as either Pilot in Command (PIC) or passenger in the back of our two-seaters. As well as getting everyone in the air as much as possible, its great to fly with other club members and see how they fly ( and vice versa)Last Saturday was such a day. While we waited for the weather to clear in the morning, we got some work done to improve the workshop area of the main hangar, as well as a repair to the woodburner glass in the clubhouse (well done Ian!). Then by lunchtime, it was flyable, and we did lots of double-up flights for the solo pilots in the club twin Astir 2-seater. Partial cloud coverage ( ranging from 60% to around 80% at the end of the flying day) made for some fantastic views, and a fantastic day overall.
