The Vale of White Horse  Gliding Centre offers young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme opportunities at Bronze, Silver and Gold level for the Volunteering and Skills sections.

Learn to fly at The Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre

  • Get taught to fly a glider
  • Learn to soar like a bird
  • Learn to drive the glider retrieve vehicles
  • Become part of a team
  • Help to launch and retrieve gliders
  • Develop your interpersonal skills

Volunteering

Help others fly at The Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre

  • Assist with moving gliders on the ground
  • Help to launch gliders
  • Maintain the flying list and log sheets
  • Use the radio to communicate with gliders and tug aircraft
  • Assist with briefing visitors for introductory flights
  • Assist in the maintenance of gliders and ground equipment
  • Embrace in becoming part of a team and watch your confidence grow
