Members and visitors at the gliding club enjoyed some wonderful winter flying all weekend on 13th and 14th December. Saturday was very blue and pretty still, with a light headwind later in the day. Sunday was similar, although in the afternoon some gentle wave was creating lift up to about 3000′, allowing some extended flights. These days are great for maintaining currency, even if flights are inevitably short without the thermals we mostly rely upon for lift in our local flying area. Several private glider owners took the chance for one or two flights, and lots of check flights and instruction took place as well. Hopefully we’ll get some more of these rewarding winter flying days over the next few months, while we anticipate the Spring thermals.
If you’re interested in experiencing gliding, these winter days can be a fantastic opportunity to fly, with spectacular views across the local countryside. Check out our booking pages to either bok a flight for yourself, or buy a voucher as a gift for someone else!
