It was great fun to meet Callum, Jessica, and their extended family when Callum came for a trial lesson at the weekend. There to watch were their new baby daughter and both sets of grandparents. We hope to see Callum again in the next few weeks using his temporary membership for another flight or two, and Jessica also sounded very interested in having a flight in the future. We’d love to see you both!
Duncan’s partner bought a gliding trial lesson for him at VoWHGC recently, and it was lovely to meet him and the extended family, who enjoyed watching and learning about the ground operations and seeing the glider launch and land, as well as tracking the flight in real time on one of the gliding apps available.

Last Saturday was another crisp, clear flying day at the Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre, and we were very happy that Nicki was able to fly with us, especially given she and her husband had to make a long drive from the South Coast to get to the airfield. Nicki has a chequered history when it comes to flying experiences, with some failed attempts over the years to go up in a hot air balloon.

Amongst lots of wet days, overcast days, and high wind days in the last couple of months, we did have a beautiful blue sky day last weekend, when club members took the opportunity to work towards going solo, or kept their currency up to date, or fixed any gaps in their recency status. It’s been a busy weekend at Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre, with a scout group flying on Friday evening, several introductory flights on Saturday, the club AGM after flying on Saturday evening, and further guest and member flying on Sunday. Saturday in particular was an excellent day for these experience flights, with blue skies, light wind straight down the runway, and cloud base at around 3400 feet above the airfield, all of which made for beautiful views over the Wiltshire and Oxfordshire countryside.

Congratulations to Lucy Swinburn on making her first glider flight today. The flight was a birthday surprise from husband Jason, and he and their children, as well as labradoodle Lola, all came along to the airfield to watch as Lucy was aerotowed to 4000 ft. The high aerotow meant the flight lasted over 30 minutes, with plenty of time to enjoy the experience, and the chance to fly above the broken cloud base at around 2000 feet.
