Congratulations to Gary on Going Solo

Congratulations to Gary on his first solo flight today.  Gary was a new member during the soaring season last year – we think it takes around 20 launches to be competent to fly solo.  Thanks, Gary,  for providing the traditional celebration beers for club members. If you think you’d like to try gliding, why not book a trial lesson at the gliding centre, or if you’d like to train to get your sailplane licence with us, fill out a membership form, or get in touch through our contacts page

Weekend of Achievements at Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre

It’s been a weekend of achievements coming thick and fast at the gliding centre recently.  A typical Saturday or Sunday normally sees a mix of early pilots learning the skills to go solo with our BGA instructors, a few trial lessons flights with visitors to the club, and in good weather, a range of qualified pilots doing cross-country flights, or aerobatics, or maybe converting from one glider type to another. This Sunday especially promised to be a perfect cross-country day, although it turned quite blue

Congratulations to Marco on His First Glider Solo Flight

One of our junior gliding members, Marco Vourla Nunez, went solo today in one of the club’s K13 training gliders.  15-year-old Marco only joined the Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre in February of this year, but had demonstrated he was ready to make his first solo flight today.  After a well-executed ground run behind the tug plane, and an aerotow to 2000 feet, he executed some high-air manoeuvres, then a nice circuit and landing back at the airfield.
